Basic Message:
Greetings,
My name is ____. I live at ______. I am a supporter of Big Flats Defenders.
I request that Governor Hochul or Supervisor Lee Giammichele (choose one) immediately require the Former Fertilizer Factory on Hammond Street in Big Flats, NY to be comprehensively remediated in strict compliance with the State mandate to restore contaminated properties to “Pre-disposal conditions, to the extent feasible…”
More than 40 years ago, State and Federal Government reports detailed decades of waste dumping at the site reportedly into a lagoon and "over the bank." Big Flats Defenders has received extensive media coverage for releasing photo documentation that those past dumping concerns still exist.
I call today to request that the Former Fertilizer Factory be thoroughly remediated without any further delay to safeguard public health and the environment.
Ideas for Optional Statements for a Better Message:
-Local residents around the factory report extensive health problems, including Lewy Body Dementia, Multiple Sclerosis, cancer and other ailments that are potentially associated with toxic chemical concerns.
-No toxic contamination cleanup has ever been conducted at the site even though it is proposed for a housing project. This is unthinkable because the public health of existing and future residents could be imperiled. I demand that a comprehensive remediation be completed before the site is redeveloped.
-Governor Hochul would be shockingly irresponsible if she fails to enforce New York's strict regulatory cleanup requirements at this notorious dumping site. That would be absolutely unacceptable to me as a resident of Big Flats, NY.
–OR-
-The Town would be shockingly irresponsible if they allow redevelopment prior to the Governor enforcing New York's strict regulatory cleanup requirements at this notorious dumping site. That would be absolutely unacceptable to me as a resident of Big Flats, NY.
You get the idea. Stay on message. BE FORCEFUL, BUT DO NOT BE DISRESPECTFUL. Make good arguments. Do not take "no" for an answer.
